North Shore Garden Walk

Spend the day touring five fabulous private gardens in Highland Park and Lake Forest including a renovated Jens Jensen landscape, a restoration of a sunken garden by Rose Standish Nichols, a landscape architect’s home garden with ravine waterfall, a garden designed with entertaining in mind, and Craig Bergmann’s garden at a historic David Adler gate-house.

ADVANCE TICKETS: $25 (Non-Members); $20 (NSGC Members)

Net proceeds will go to fund the North Shore Garden Club Scholarship at the College of Lake County, the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Green Youth Farm in North Chicago, and other horticultural projects.

Tickets the day of the walk will be $30 on the patio at the Deerpath Inn in Lake Forest 10 am – Noon

Gardener/artist Harriet Klein of Highland Park says she gardens in a “painterly” fashion.		A patch of the “ball-themed” garden designed by landscaper Craig Bergman for the Litowitz family of Glencoe.

Gardener Rachel Catlett is especially proud of the work she’s done on the “Pear Tunnel” in the Litowitz back garden.		Jerry Kohlenbrener of Skokie enjoys the flowerbeds behind Alec and Jennifer Litowitz’s pool.

Mimi Hamann (left) of Highland Park said she’s most proud of the 200 rose bushes she’s planted in her garden.		A pond hidden away in an alcove of Mimi Hamann’s garden.

Suzanne Boren said her ’small’ Lake Forest garden was recently photographed for Better Homes & Gardens magazine.		Suzanne Boren made her garage an integral part of her garden design.

North Shore Garden Club member Alice Strauss shows a “before” photo of Suzanne Boren’s garden.		Stevie Clark of Lake Forest said hers is a “rolling garden” where everything changes from year to year.

Stevie Clark’s sunny back yard garden features many curves.		Stevie Clark (left) tells friends that she removed 34 truckloads of clay soil from her property in creating her garden.

Shade is the outstanding feature of Cappy Johnston’s Lake Forest garden.		Cappy Johnston said that the first garden bed she worked on is still her favorite.
